I’ve been way too busy for it to be a Sunday, but I feel a lot better now that I’ve gotten a few gigantic weights off my shoulders. And not only was a buff chicka today, metaphorically speaking, I did a few really happy things too. 🙂
Had to wake up early, which I hate. Ergh. I think it should be mandatory that everyone on Sunday is required to sleep in until at *least* 10:00. Okay, 9:30 if you’re one of those weird, demented morning people. (Just kidding, I know you all exist and that’s nice.) I stumbled through church and somehow managed to take the last of the portraits needed for that special project. The absolute last one!! It was Kelsey. I’ve dragged her around four times before this to take her picture, but each and every time something went wrong. She’s a really beautiful girl and somehow I managed to mess the pictures up. But not this time! I tried three different locations and took dozens of photos. Now I have five really fantastic portraits of her and I’m thrilled about that. I was feeling really bad for her, not wanting to think it was her fault or something. It was just me. My hands would shake, she would move, the lighting would be bad; you name any (general) bad thing to happen during a photo shoot and it’s happened. But today was an entirely different matter. She wore a lovely green Chinese formal, pulled her hair back, and looked stunning. I think she’ll really love her portrait.
After I got home from church, I was really wiped out, but I had things to do. I checked my email and got a really happy note from Emily – I emailed Emily for a while last year when I was doing battle with ArsDigita. (History for newbies: I won an award from an IT company in Boston, ArsDigita, last year for my charity work on the Internet. The prize was lifetime use of a dedicated server. The company refused to hand over the prize, took the same prize from past winners, and it was a big hairy legal mess. I stepped in and tried to get our servers back, but ended up just having to take what little joy I could in pounding the final nail into the company’s coffin. ArsDigita basically imploded last winter.) Okay, so Emily won the prize the year before I did, and she and I spent some time comparing notes. She and her sisters run MatMice.com.
Anyway, I did have a point to all this. Emily sent me an email out of the blue this morning to let me know about another contest similar to ArsDigita, but of a more solid foundation. Meaning, if I win this one I probably won’t have to fight for some shread of the prize. It’s run by Childnet & Cable & Wireless and the prize is a trip to London (woohoo!) and
