I’m glad to see that Turner Classic Movies is doing a movie marathon to honor Katharine Hepburn. ‘The Philadelphia Story’ is starting right now. I do love that movie. It’s one of those movies that’s entertaining, and yet there’s still a lot you can learn from it. Which is why it’s on my list of Movies Everyone Should See. I started compiling the list on Saturday night when I was feeling particularly silly in the head. ‘Dead Poets Society’ happened to come on at something like three in the morning on TNT and it just made me think of all the movies I’ve watched that have shaped who I have become. I vaguely remember watching ‘Dead Poets Society’ when I was a child and really liking it, but for the life of me I couldn’t remember much of the movie itself (except, of course, the ending, which is most bothersome. And, it’s the reason I haven’t watched ‘Citizen Kane’ – the ending is spoiled for me!)
Anyway, I’ve gotten way off course. ‘The Philadelphia Story’. Fabulous movie. There was a musical version made in the 1950s starring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Grace Kelly. It was Grace’s last movie, actually, before she married that Prince. It was called ‘High Society’. It was cute, and there was a great musical number by Frank Sinatra and some woman who’s name escapes me at the moment. But nobody could play Tracy Lord like Katharine Hepburn. The Virgin Goddess on her Pedastal. If you haven’t seen it, you really should watch it. The original, with Kate, and Cary Grant, and Jimmy Stewart. In fact, if I were well, I think I’d host a Katharine Hepburn party. All day and all night, the greatest Katharine Hepburn movies. Great food and movies movies movies.
So. This list of Movies Everyone Should See. I’m going to publish it on here shortly, I think, but I haven’t quite finished it. There are a few more movies I think belong on the list, but I can’t remember what they are right about now. As soon as I think of them I’ll put the list up here in the Writings section. 🙂
I’m getting slightly better, thank goodness. My head only hurts off and on, and my back is slowly recovering from the spinal tap. I’m still quite dizzy when I stand up, so I’ve been sitting around all day again. I’m getting rather tired of it, but there isn’t much I can do about it, is there? So I’ll deal.
Back to watching the movie now.
