I’m getting some babies! Cute little cuddly furry babies! Chinchilla babies! Hurrah!

Think I’m a little excited? 🙂 Last Saturday I took my niece and nephew to the pet store and while we were there, my Mom spotted a cute little gray chinchilla. I got to cuddle with him for about half an hour and I loved it. He was incredibly soft, albeit a bit hyper and spastic.

I’ve been dying for a pet for quite some time now. The idea was brought to the forefront last year when, right after the whole stalker incident, my doctor recommended I either get a pet to cuddle with or a man to sleep next to. She thought one or the other might help alleviate the anxiety associated with the post traumatic stress disorder. Since my parents weren’t too keen on the idea of adopting a pet man, we were left with the option of getting an animal. This proved quite difficult because my Mother is highly allergic to dander. I used to have two pet bunnies, but because we lived in Arizona at the time, it was okay to keep their cages outside. I had two hamsters for a while when I was 16, but eh, they were kind of annoying little hamsters who wouldn’t tolerate being held. Not to mention they were really stinky. I was beginning to think my search for a pet was rather pointless, what with the stinkiness, dander, and lack of cuddle-friendliess in small animals.

Pointless, that is, until I met the chinchilla and discovered that they don’t produce dander. Better yet, they don’t produce a scent. Even better, they’re easy to clean up after. And best of all, it’s not only good for them to be cuddled and played with, but their fur produces lanolin oil so they’re like nice, furry, cuddleable hand lotion. What could be better? A new fuzzy friend and extra soft hands. 🙂

The only problem is, they’re a tad bit expensive. The chinchilla at the store was $175. Ouch. On top of that, chinchillas are highly social creatures – if I only got the one, I’d absolutely have to play with him every single day. That’s a lot of pressure, so I knew I’d want to get two so we’d all be happy. I did a ton of research over the weekend and found this nice lady in southern Virginia who breeds chinchillas. She has agreed to let me adopt two boys for $200. They were born on August 31, so they’re still babies, which is oh so very exciting. I got my first bunny when she was only a few weeks old, which allowed me to train her from the very beginning. She was the most personable, cuddly rabbit and it was fabulous. I even got her potty-trained! I’m excited to have that opportunity to bond with these chinchillas as well. They’ll be able to get used to me and how I’ll care for them, which will make everything so much easier and more enjoyable in the long run. And hopefully they’ll be a bit less spastic than the chinchilla at the pet store. 🙂

I’m so excited! Babies! Hehehe. I should get them some time next week, which will allow enough time for their new cage to arrive. I’ll of course post lots of pictures as soon as I get them. 🙂 I’ve already decided on names for them, but I’ll save that for later. Ooo, the suspense.

Hehe, one more time… Babies! 🙂
