I have had the best evening. You know what? People should get up, get out of their houses, and go spend more evenings talking to new and interesting people. I just love that. I drove out to Translating Drew’s house to drop off a thank you gift to express my appreciation for all of the help he’s given me lately, and I ended up talking to him for three hours. It was fantastic! I love conversations like that. We covered so many thrilling topics, I learned a lot, and I found a new friend. I think it easily qualifies as one of the highlights of the past few weeks. Translating Drew’s a great guy, I think we have a lot in common, and turns out I’ve actually met him before. He’s on my county’s Board of Supervisors and I actually shook his hand back in July when I received my commendation from the county. We didn’t figure this out until I was leaving at around 11:30, and he said, “This is my other job,” and showed me a little badge from the country board of supervisors. I laughed and said, “I’ve met you before!” It was pretty funny. Sure enough he remembered me as the girl with the messed up face, since at that time I was still recovering from the incident where I passed out in the bathroom. Even weeks after the incident I still looked like I had narrowly survived a prize fight: the whole right side of my face was black and blue.
And guess what! He plays a version of the Tiffany’s Game too! He started asking me questions about it and I ended up explaining the whole game and he really got a kick out of that. It was hilarious. He also taught me a lot about an amazing King of England from the time of the Vikings. Translating Drew’s also a member of the same church that I am, so we ended up talking about that quite a bit as well. Very wise, intelligent fellow. I’m looking forward to seeing him again, we’re planning on doing dinner some time so I can meet his wife and kids. 🙂
I’m still kind of in shock at my luck at finding Translating Drew when I did. I found him through a coincidence, but he’s the absolute best man for the job. Not only is he a professional German translator, turns out he’s also a ridiculously successful PR man. Who better to have on your side while trying to hype a TV show than a man who can get me on Oprah? Ah, I just love the way everything’s falling into place with this whole Princess thing. At this point, I’m not nervous anymore. Everything’s working out too well for this to be a flop, you know? So many things have gone out of their way to make sure everything goes right for me. So many people have been so automatically enthusiastic about it. For example, my Mom was talking to this sweet older woman she knows a few weeks ago, and she explained the whole TV show to her. The woman got so excited and my Mom said her eyes lit up as she said, “I know she’ll do it. I can feel it, I can feel it straight through to my bones. She’s gonna do it, that girl’s gonna do it.” I’m starting to believe her, I think. After meeting Drew, I’m just amazed at how many things are going right and falling into place that were complete and total coincidences. And yet, it’s all so perfect.
Translating Drew couldn’t get through to the Count today, but he’s going to call again tomorrow and get that meeting set up so I can book the airline tickets and everything before Dean has to leave for France. I’m confident it’ll work out. It has to. I have too much else to accomplish in this life to be hindered now.
Hehe, want to know something else funny about ‘Army of Darkness’? (This won’t make any sense if you haven’t seen the film, so skip to the next paragraph if this is the case.) When Bruce Campbell goes to pick up the book and he’s supposed to say the words, “Klaatu Barada Niktu”, guess where those words come from! From the classic movie ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’! I watched that movie for the first time tonight with Steve and as soon as Klaatu told Patricia Neal to say that, I started laughing, it was just too funny. See? That’s what made ‘Army of Darkness’ funny – it’s the stupid little details like that. Sure, it was weird, but it was the weirdness that made it funny. Sure, it was really stupid and made no sense whatsoever, but that’s the point. It knew it was stupid, it was proud of it, and it ran with it. Yeah, and maybe I’m a Chinese jet pilot.
I’m pretty tired now, and I’ve got to wake up pretty early tomorrow. Ugh. I don’t want to, I really want to sleep in tomorrow… Alas, that won’t be possible. I have to go shopping. Ugh again. Oh well. Maybe I can sleep in the car.
I just finished watching, for the third time, a very bizarre movie called ‘Six-String Samurai’, which I think you might like. The setting: The USA was nuked by the Russians, and is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In the lone thriving city of Lost Vegas, Elvis ruled as Rock’n’Roll King, but he’s just died and left no heir. The story: Buddy, a geeky-looking guitar rocker and accomplished swordslinger, must fight his way to Vegas to claim the throne. He’s followed by a young boy who communicates mostly by a wordless yell, and he must fight his way past bowler-assasins, a cannibal family, windmill people, the Russian army, and Death himself (who happens to be a heavy metal rocker with designs for the throne). Oh, and the entire soundtrack is performed by a surf-punk band from Russia called the Red Elvises. It’s great low-budget movie fun!
Anyway, it’s very cool that you’ve made so many friends and connections in your TV show endeavors. I’m still amazed that all of this is falling in place so nicely for you. It certainly does seem that it’s meant to be, and I hope the good fortune continues!
