Hooray! At 7:30 this evening my brother, Steven, was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for Two Year Colleges. What does that mean exactly? That means that he’s in the top one percent of his class for scholastic achievement, and that he’s generally just a really cool, intelligent person. Kevin, Max, Mom, and I went to Steven’s induction ceremony. I got to take pictures, which was loads of fun. (Good thing I enjoy it, since that’s usually my job.) Surprisingly, Max was incredibly well behaved throughout the whole thing. He just sat there for the most part, playing with his trucks, and marvelling at his newly spiked hair-do.
After the ceremony we stood around in the lobby of the building and talked to the other inductees, then off we went to Kevin and Jen’s house for brownies and ice cream (that was my favorite part.) It was pretty dang cool. Phi Theta Kappa actually receives frequent telephone calls from major universities, asking if any of their members would like scholarships. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Steve will get one of those calls from George Mason or Georgetown. If not, then dang it, they’re just plain stupid.
I think it’s time for sleep. Sorry this is so short, but I haven’t been feeling too well again. Another string of headaches. Well, technically, it’s still the same headache, it’s just been going on for five days in a row. Lovely. I’m down to only three pain killers left in the bottle and I’m worried they won’t give me any more. It’s really frustrating – I’ve indulged Cute Doctor Carroll in his migraine theory. I’ve now played guinea pig for four different types of migraine medications, and *none* of them have worked. Not a single one put the slightest dent in the headaches. Actually, the second to last one – Nortriptyline (another anti-depressant that’s used in small doses to treat migraines) – actually made the headaches worse. My headaches used to come on gradually, giving me time to wrap up whatever I was doing and go lay down to watch a movie for a while to try to skate through it by distracting myself. But it doesn’t do that anymore, now I just get hit by them in an instant. No more grace period, just BAM, I’ve got a headache. Let me tell you, Dr. Carroll isn’t quite as cute as he used to be…
I still swear it’s that brain stem/spinal column malformation thing. It really makes the most sense, it takes care of all of my symptoms. The only problem is it takes serious pain killers to do anything for the pain. And believe me, the pain really stinks. I have a pretty high pain tolerance – most of my orthopedists have told me that childbirth will be a walk in the park for me – and this is nearly unbearable. It gets to the stage where my head hurts so bad that my ears hurt and my face feels like it’s sagging simply because everything from the shoulders up hurts too bad to bother. It’s on days like this that I wish I could shave my head, and then magically have my hair grow back whenever I tell it to, cause dang those curls get heavy.
Well that got babbly. And during those babbles, I remembered the other good news – lunch is all set with Producing Dean and Translating Drew. I get to go to a restaurant right near the National Press Building in downtown DC next week. I’m so excited. The last time I went to the National Press Building was when those sweet Canadians interviewed me. Maybe I can wave hello to them up there on something like the eighth or ninth floor. I’m pretty psyched about lunch; I’m sure it will make great material for sweeps month of The Heather Show. 🙂
