Guess who gets to drive a Ferrari this afternoon? 🙂 You see, I’m going to a business meeting around 2ish, but it’s not your average business meeting. No sitting around a board room table, no wondering how many hours you’ll be stuck in an stuffy room with coworkers. Rather, I’m heading over to a lovely Ferrari dealership to talk shop. And, most intriguingly, I’ll be pitching what could be the most important proposal of my life.
But you want to know the suckiest thing? I can’t tell you why. Sorry, people, but it’s just too good. But let’s just say, in this proposal, I’ll get to drop some hefty names, talk about cars, talk about driving real fast for a real long time, and hopefully walk out of there with a beautiful contingent contract. Ah, life is good.
Even if I don’t get that contingent contract tomorrow (honestly, it’d be real shocking if I got an answer that quick, since this is kind of out of the blue), I’ll still be uber-proud of myself for having the guts to waltz in there, drive a car worth almost as much as my house, and then have the nerve to ask them for more. If I can pull that off without giggling at my own audacity, I’ll consider it a great day and I’ll remember September 30th as a day of fantastic achievement.
It’s funny, a lot of people think I’m a bit of an enigma, not really having a “regular job”, sleeping on a schedule more befitting a party girl, and traveling to Europe far more times than I should. Dang it, I’m proud to be that enigma! I own it, I live it, it’s mine! I wouldn’t have my life any other way. I’ve decided once and for all that the Nine-To-Five simply isn’t for me, and never will be, so help me. Tomorrow it’s time to make another bid for that Enigmatic Life. I crossed an important threshold two days ago that got me to this point, it’s time for the next step. If I didn’t take that step, as wild as it is, what kind of woman would I be? I’d be turning down the chance of a lifetime. A slim chance, yes, but a chance nonetheless. I’ve come to a very important conclusion – you never know what will happen in life. Not only does it never hurt to ask, but sometimes – just sometimes – even the craziest of questions can be answered with a “yes.”
Need proof of the power of a question? Check out what I was doing nearly a year go, working with an Emmy-award winning TV producer, flying to Germany on company expense, and sitting down with none other than the real Count Dracula to discuss a television program *I* created (*hint, hint*). It may not have worked out, but I took that project as far as I possibly could. Farther, I might add, than any other 18-year-old girls I’ve ever met. I’m really proud of that, and looking back on it all, it doesn’t even seem real. But I was there, I made it happen, and it all started with one email. One email. This time, I’m a year older, I’m better prepared, I’m more confident in myself and my ideas, I have far more experience, and I’ve worked with two different producers on a multitude of projects both here in DC and long-distance with an Oscar winner in Hollywood. It’s been a year, I’ve worked long and hard, it’s time to ask more questions, and this time, get longer lasting results. I have part of the old gang behind me this time, including Translating Drew and potentially the rest of the partners at his PR firm. Even my buddies at Nordstrom have offered to pick up the tab for my wardrobe. Needless to say, things are looking good.
So wish me luck, god speed, and all that jazz. As I said nearly a year ago, I shall go, I shall see, I shall conquer. Pray for me, knock on wood, cross your fingers, whatever your thing is. If it works, I’ll take you for a drive in my Ferrari. 😉 If you need me, I’ll be in my room, listening to the Ramones, and occasionally leaping into a happy dance. I suppose I’ll sleep eventually, but until then, gabba gabba hey. 🙂
Fingers crossed…good luck 😉 I know I’m a little outta your way at work and all but if you take that Ferrari out for a spin, pick me up!

Isn’t there some saying about pride coming before a fall?
😉
Methinks you are confusing pride with confidence after hard work and preparation. Nothing wrong with confidence! 🙂
Methinks you used the very word, “proud” in your entry… “I’m really proud of that”, wasn’t it?
*wink*
Hehe – tis fun to be part of the peanut gallery.
Be the enigma. Own your enigmatic status. After all, you’re a Lawver, with Cookson blood no less! Could you be anything else? I don’t think so. One day, the enigmas will rule the world! And everyone else will be really, really confused.
