It’s just past eight o’clock in the morning and yet again my sleep schedule is proving its own dysfunction. Sunday night I couldn’t fall asleep until around this time. I’d been hoping to sleep in, but alas, I had to wake up after only two hours of sleep to head to the hospital. I’ve been having this painful problem with my leg and it had gotten worse quite rapidly. General Surgery at Bethesda agreed to see me immediately so I had to rush to Maryland. I spent the entire day there, but it was a very good thing. I was seen by two departments, three doctors, and two medical students. Between them they managed to biopsy the problem and come up with a probable diagnosis. That probably diagnosis was quite a relief compared to what I thought was going on in my leg. My sleep-deprived mind had decided it was either cancer or some kind of alien in my leg (kidding , of course. About one of those anyway.) So now I have three stitches in my leg but a big load off my shoulders.
Unfortunately, I still can’t sleep. After only two hours of sleep the night before, I fell asleep watching ‘Law & Order’ around nine o’clock tonight. I slept fairly well until around 3:00am, when my body decided I’d had enough and it was time to be wide awake. And now here I am, trying my best to be productive, despite my leg stinging like crazy and wishing I could sleep.
At least being productive is working out. Over the past few nights I’ve gathered evidence for some legal work (mwahaha… oh how I wish I could tell you why…), came up with a brilliant plan for a charitable fund-raising project in conjunction with a TV show I’m producing, and I’ve come up with the Bloggy Christmas present for this year. 🙂 Back in 2002 I performed a rather ridiculous version of ‘Santa Baby’ as a surprise Christmas present for all my lovely blog readers. I decided the reasons for these Bloggy Christmas presents were to provide unique content for the holidays, hopefully make you laugh, and to make a complete and utter fool of myself. Unfortunately I was unable to do anything for Christmas last year, but the Bloggy Christmas present is back! It’s all finished, ready for download… but you can’t have it yet. You’ll just have to wait until Christmas. No laughing at my ridiculous performance until the big day. 🙂
In other more exciting news, last week I had the opportunity to speak with the only female racer in the Ferrari Cup Challenge racing circuit, Mandy Williams Reimert. We spoke for about half an hour on the phone and she was kind enough to let me pick her brain about racing, Ferraris, and her work raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She serves on her local chapter’s board of directors and has raised over $500,000 them through racing events. She was very pleasant, had the best Texas accent in the history of Texas, and was a lot of fun to talk to.
You might be asking, why was I spending time talking to an accomplished female racer? I’ve eluded to the reasons why in the past, but have yet to really come out and say it. Driving school’s been mentioned, Ferraris have been mentioned a lot recently, television production’s back in the forefront… Put the pieces together and you’ll find that I’m producing a television series about the Ferrari Cup Challenge. I can’t give you too many details, except to say that things are going ridiculously well. Most recently the lovely Ms Reimert has agreed to serve as a mentor for the racer we’re spotlighting on the program.
Ten guesses as to who the racer is. 🙂
Exciting, eh? 🙂 I’ve got a friend in New York working on the financing. He’s very experienced and has worked on a lot of big-time Hollywood projects. Turns out he’s also a fan of racing, so that works nicely. And hopefully I’ll be able to convince the folks at Translating Drew’s public relations firm to play along as well. That shouldn’t be too difficult. All in all, this is moving much faster and much better than the Dracula program did last year, and to think that one would have happened if only his girlfriend hadn’t said no. And this time there are no jealous girlfriends to get in my way. 🙂
So despite not sleeping and not feeling my best health-wise, things are looking up. At least a bit. Sure, my hair’s still a mess, but trust me, that will be taken care of. The salon’s customer service derpartment may have stopped being nice, but that’s not the end of it. On the bright side, I don’t have an alien in my leg, and I have a new friend in a Ferrari racer. Life is definitely looking up. Now if only I could fall back asleep…
Holy cow, I get worn out just reading about all the stuff you do! Anyway, I’ve been waking up at 3:30 on the dot and not being able to fall back asleep for the last two weeks. Maybe we should meet up at Wal-mart or something.
Your insomnia is contagious. 🙂 Not being able to sleep when I want to makes me crazy. At least you have an excuse though, so much to keep you busy!
