I’ve made a mistake… I just couldn’t help myself… it was just so gorgeous, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. Dang you, Detroit Auto Show! I’ve been lost in a death spiral of its V10 gorgeousness. All I can think about are its curves, its lines, how that engine must roar. BMW has it wrong, you know. The “M” in M5 doesn’t stand for Motorsport. Nooo, it stands for MmmmmMmmm good. |
Okay, okay, I know I’m obsessing. I just can’t get cars out of my head. It was already bad enough before I saw these pictures of a vision in V10. Oh how I want one! I’ve been doing more research for my racing program, emailing more contacts, getting more details squared away. All of this is only turning me into the world’s largest female car snob/afficionado. But I just have to keep reminding myself, it’s all for a good cause.
This research has proven to be very important indeed. When I first got this project going it was to combat the fact that I was told that the leading cause of death among 16 to 25 year olds are auto accidents. Looks like I was told wrong – car crashes are the leading cause of death for those aged 1 to 34. 41,000 people die every year from accidents that are, more often than not, entirely preventable. I’ll spare you the numbers that illustrate how many of those 41,000 are children, and just how grisly their deaths can be. It’s just too gut-wrenching.
I’m glad I’ve gotten so much research done, it’s invigorating. Something simply has to be done to combat this trend. The leading cause of death is preventable! We aren’t stricken with some disease without a cure. The only thing we’re stricken with is stupidity and arrogance behind the wheel. If people would just slow down, drive a little safer, be a little more aware, these people needn’t die.
I feel so strongly about this that I feel I could burst. This television program of mine has suddenly become so much larger than myself. Now it’s part of an overall goal to cut that fatality rate in half over the next five years. I know I’m going to accomplish this because it simply has to be done by somebody. It might as well be me.
But now I’ll spare you my incessant ramblings about automobiles and statistics. I really should be getting to bed. Just one last thing before I go – voting closes on that blog award on Friday, so get out there and vote, please! And thanks to all the lovely people who have voted for me already! You guys rock. 🙂
