I got a Chinchilla last week! The babies I talked about getting post before last won’t be ready until the end of the month, but I found out about this little guy on Craigslist last Sunday. His previous owner could no longer care for him and was offering him up for adoption for only $50, and he came complete with a giant cage and all the various chinchilla accoutrements. Naturally I was happy to give him a new home, so I took him in, and he and I have been getting along fabulously.I have named him Nunzio. Why? Because you can’t really give your kids crazy names or they’ll get picked on, so I’m working out all my weird name urges on my unsuspecting chinchillas. It’s not like they’ll get picked on, so why not? |
| I’ve been spending a great deal of time with him, trying to get him used to people again. He’s a tad bit shy, but a quick learner. In only a week I’ve taught him not to bite, that when I say “raisin” I have a treat for him, and almost every time I walk into the room, he’ll bound up to the side of the cage to greet me. He’s awfully cute, and much to my surprise, he’s not the standard chinchilla breed I was expecting. I found out he’s a specialized Black Velvet breed, which is rather expensive when you buy one from a breeder. So I got one heck of a deal on this cute little guy. 🙂 Hooray! I have a pet! | |

We use to have a chinchilla in my science room in high school. I don’t remember his name, but he was a lot of fun.
Big ears, big heart I hear.
Glad you have someone to keep you company since I understand chinchilla’s are nocturnal.
fun stuff!
Does this guy displace the other adoptees? Or will he be the big brother? Or will he eat them? Do chinchillas eat chinchilla? And most importantly, do they have chinchillas on Uranus?
Several times a day I am asked by Max whether I got a call from Aunt Heather. Finally he added the part about it being because of the baby chinchillas. Oy with the asking already!
