Happy New Year everybody! Sorry I didn’t blog on the actual day… I meant to… but I kinda slept through the whole day. All I remember is that I fell asleep New Years Eve around 4am, then I woke up for a couple hours around 5pm (yes, you saw that right, 5PM!), I ate thai food, I talked to my friend Sujit, and then I fell back asleep around 7pm, (yes, only two hours later.) I slept straight until 6:30 this morning on January 2nd. So yeah, I pretty much slept through the first day of 2007. I think this is a bad sign because I normally don’t sleep like this. I think I’m sick. Or rather, sick with something else besides the ordinary sickness. I’ve been in a lot of extra pain lately and my sleeping schedule is, well, not even a schedule anymore cause it’s so messed up. Ergh. I hate that.
Anyway, apparently my brother Kevin tagged me for an Internet meme thingie where I’m supposed to write five things that you may not know about me. I’ve been having a real hard time coming up with five things that I haven’t already blabbed to the world about that I would want the world to know about. Most of my life is an open book, and the things that I’ve kept secret have been carefully calculated and even more carefully hidden. So I’m not sure what to write. But I’ll try my best, just please excuse me if they’re all things you already know. After all, I’ve been asleep forEVER and my brain is all mushy.
1 – Everyone knows I’ve been sick for a long time, but you may not know the true numbers. As of this March, I will have been sick for exactly 11 years. Straight. Wow that sucks. Come to think of it, I should so get presents in March.
2 – Ever since I was a very very small kid, I had this feeling deep down that I would never get married and never have children. I never knew why, I just had that feeling and by the time I was about ten I’d kind of come to terms with it. I don’t know if that’s self-fulfilling prophecy or what, but for a variety of reasons, I’m kind of starting to think it was right on. And spare me the speeches – I know I’m still young, I know there are still “many fish in the sea”; that’s not the point, and if it were, life would be so much simpler than it really is.
3 – Wow, this is getting depressing. TIme for something happy. Umm… when I was nine years old, I entered a writing contest sponsored by a newspaper in my then-hometown of Tucson. I wrote a cute little fairy tale about a knight who’d lost his armor. I won the contest, and guess what the prize was? A gift certificate to a toy store that was owned by my adopted uncle – one of my Dad’s best friends from when he was a kid. I still remember going to the toy store that day. I bought a stuffed bunny, and I think its name was Max. It was from some book series I’d never read cause I was too old for them at that point.
4 – Do any of you remember that famous website from waaaaay back when, The Big Green Button? If you don’t know, google it – it has long since disappeared, but the impact it had still echoes throughout the web. (In fact, Big Green Button #3 won Worst of the Web in 1999!) Anyway, the creator of The Big Green Button was my very, very first Internet friend. David, I had such a huge crush on David… back when I was 11. He and I still email from time to time. Good Internet friends are like that.
5 – There’s been a looooong pause in the typing here for me, cause I can’t think of a good fifth thing. So I’ve decided that maybe the fifth thing should be that, guess what, I still have plenty of secrets that I don’t blog about. It may seem like my entire life is out here on the blog, and that if you just studied long enough you’d think you’d have me figured out. People have tried, people have read this and thought they really knew me. But nope, it’s not that simple. There’s more to me than what’s posted here. Some of it’s nice, and some of it really isn’t so nice. But that’s the joy of blogs – there’s always a man behind the curtain (or in this case a woman), one that you’re not always meant to see.
There. Done. Phew, that was tough. I guess I have to tag five people now, since those are the rules. Okay, I’ll tag Stephen, Sujit, Sabbrielle, Alastair, aaaaaaaaaaaand Andrew. (Email me if you actually want me to link to your blog there.) Have fun, but hey, if you don’t want to write five things about yourself, I’m going to release the pressure for you – even though I’ve named you, you don’t have to write five previously unknown things about yourself. If you don’t want to, just write five things that you like, or five made up things, or whatever. Cause hey, I acknowledge that sometimes secret things are best kept secret after all.
Happy New Year, everybody. Here’s to hoping that 2007 doesn’t suck anywhere near as much as 2006 did.
nice blog and nice post
and yes, i think 2oo6 really sucks
may u lead a better one this year
Done.
Secret #6 – It’s actually a PIRATE behind the curtain. Haha!
Couldn’t find the actual green button on Google, but I found a lot of commentary on the green button, so I don’t think I want to do it.
