My day has been pretty laid back, for the same reasons as the past few days. Big surprise. But there was a bright difference today – Stephen called around 5:00 to see if I wanted to get together to watch a movie. We’ve been trying to go see ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ for several months now, but things kept getting in the way. So finally we decided that Stephen would come over here, I’d go out and rent the movie, and we’d watch it on my big screen TV. Nothing got in the way this time and we finally got to see it. Hoorah! I must say, it was quite an enjoyable flick. Not only was it cute, but I got to listen to some pretty funny Indian music too. I love Indian rock and dance music, it makes me happy. Now if only I could remember to find some… After ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, we watched a great Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode that we had on tape, “Cave Dwellers.” Ah, I love that episode. MST3k is a very, very good thing.
But you know what the best thing was tonight? Cake. After dinner I had about an hour before Stephen was going to come over and I didn’t really have anything else to do. What better reason to make a triple choctolate fudge cake with chocolate chocolate chip icing on top? Mmmm. Yummy. The timing was perfect, too – the cake was still pleasantly warm when Stephen arrived. Not bad, eh? Man, I’m good. Hehe.
I don’t really have much else to report, except that I’m watching VH1’s “I Love the 80’s Strikes Back” for the year 1989. It’s truly scary how much I remember from the 80’s. I shouldn’t remember that, was I still a toddler for goodness sake! All I can say is, while 80’s music is fun to dance to and all, I’m really glad that era’s over. I’m glad we’re no longer wearing lycra bicycling shorts all over the place, I’m glad we don’t have to deal with those awful curly mullet-helmets, and I’m even happier that the fear of running into gangs of dancer-ruffians is no longer a public concern a la the ‘Beat It’ video.
Hahahaha! The Beastie Boys just came on – they look ridiculous. Are they really considered cool? My last boyfriend listened to them and believe me, I just didn’t get it. They’re geeks for goodness sake. They’re skinny as sin, they look like nerds, and they knew how to yell; I’m supposed to think that’s cool? Although, who knows, maybe that’s who they’re trying to appeal to. They had to fight for their right to party. Why? Because they were just too nerdy to be invited to any event otherwise.
Okay, scary thought – did I want to become a designer because of ‘Designing Women’? Please, please, tell me it’s not true! 🙂
Time for bed now, because I need to force myself to start waking up at a normal hour. I was awake until 6:30 in the morning last night all because of a stupid, splitting headache. Tonight, I’m going to be ready to sleep no later than 3:30. Sounds like a plan to me.
hehe! I’m watching I love the 80s strikes back (81) at this very moment! hehe. I was born in 87 so thankfully, i remember nothing of that age, although i remember a bit of the over-flow into the early 90s. I’m definatly a 90s kid. What i remember more than anything else; flannel. (wow! look! hanson just poped up on tv!) lots and lots of flannel. And eep! I want to see Bend it like Bekham too! I gotta remember to get it next time..
Damn you! I want some of that cake. Holy crap did my mouth start watering…
Well, SC, if you’d just come over and watch movies I’d bake you a cake. But nooo, you keep using that old excuse of, ‘It’s too far!’ 😛
Ameya – you know one thing from the 80’s you should be glad you mostly missed? The hair. Man, that was hideous…
I love the Beastie Boys! Their ‘License to Ill’ album was so full of parody and goofiness. They definitely weren’t taking themselves seriously during the 80s, and the rap/hip-hop world always needs more artists who don’t take themselves too seriously. I don’t really enjoy their music enough to listen to it frequently, but I give them credit for being the first successful white rap artists, for continuing to keep things relatively light, without a whole lot of the sex and violence that pervades rap/hip-hop, and for having the guts to poke fun at themselves.
Oh, and that cake sounds extremely yummy. I’ve got a recipe that sounds similar, and much drool is produced whenever I bake one. Mmmmmm.
Good luck with your resolve to start getting up at a normal hour. I know how hard it is to get back in that habit. 🙂
