I think the world is about to end. Why do I say this? Because I actually fell asleep before midnight… of my own free will! I spent all day running around yesterday. I woke up at 8:00am, got some hotcakes, drove to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Downtown DC, met with a new neurologist (who was very nice), then drove further into DC for lunch on Connecticut Avenue (Mexican food! Real Mexican food!!), went to the Uptown Theatre to see The Two Towers, then drove back home (thanks to Stephen), then two minutes after walking in the door I got whisked back out again to take my nephew Max to McDonald’s for dinner. I got back home at 8:30pm. I watched Mythbusters around 9:00pm, but found myself falling asleep during the program. This is highly unheard of because normally it takes some serious medication to make me fall asleep at nine o’clock at night, and also because even if I was under the effects of medication, Mythbusters is far too entertaining to put me to sleep. (I’d give you the link for Mythbusters, but Discovery.com just crashed, so watch it Friday nights at 9:00pm Eastern Time. [Check your local listings.] It’s yummy stuff.)
I toyed with the idea of trying to stay awake to watch something else, so I tested the waters with an episode of Fairly Odd Parents. I fell asleep through that too, so I toddled upstairs, brushed my teeth, and fell into bed close to eleven o’clock. I was out almost immediately. The trouble is, I didn’t wake up again until two in the afternoon. Scary, isn’t it? Fifteen hours of sleep! My brother tried to wake me up several times, but to no avail. I think I needed sleep, don’t you?
I’m still feeling kind of icky. I don’t know why. I’m really hoping this massive amount of sleep doesn’t mean I’m getting sick. To combat this, I plan on tricking my body into thinking I’m really a young, healthy child by proceeding to go downstairs to watch Saturday morning (err, afternoon – gotta love Tivo!) cartoons and snarf down a bowl of cocoa krispies.
As mentioned above, my neurologist yesterday was very nice. He was so thorough – I’ve never had a neuro check-up that complete before. Also, he ordered an EEG and a special kind of MRI that will monitor the flow of spinal fluid around the brainstem – the area that the initial MRI report claimed to be malformed. He was very good about asking questions, taking proper notes, and making me feel comfortable. He deserves a cookie.
The Mexican food was great yesterday. Can you believe that I actually found a chimichanga east of the Mississippi river that had… *gasp!* shredded beef in it?! I know, so shocking. And man was it good! Not the best chimi I’ve ever had (La Casita in Sierra Vista, Az still holds that record), but the best on the east coast. It passed the Runny Nose test, and that’s always a good sign.
And guess what else?! My short notice email actually worked! Stephen was able to take a four-hour “lunch break” so he could come with me to see the special extended edition of ‘The Two Towers.’ I was so happy – I hate going to see movies alone, and I hadn’t seen Stephen in a while so it was a good way to get caught up on what’s been going on in his life. It was great fun. 🙂 He was also sweet enough to give me a ride home. He deserves a cookie too. Better yet, a chocolate cupcake. 🙂 He’s also planning on joining the party next week when we’ll all go to see ‘Return of the King’ at midnight. Huzzah!
Okay, I think it’s time for Fairly Odd Parents and some cocoa krispies. Mmm. 🙂 Can you say, “mature”? Nope, I can’t either.
Nice! Yeah, yesterday I went to bed around 1:30am. That time, for me, is comparable to you going to bed right after supper 😉
Glad to hear about the new neurologist!
Hey there Heather! Just dropping to let you know that I found your blog cuz I was doing a search on the lyrics to “Sway”. [“When marimba music starts to play”…] I love that song. I got hooked on it via “Dark City”. 🙂
