You know what’s scary? I have an office. Mmhmm, all my own. It’s an office: Four walls, a door, a desk, a new computer, some filing cabinets, a printer. The whole works. Even a phone with my own line and my own voicemail. I get to decorate it and everything. I’ve already gotten frames for some posters I had printed several months ago from the Kew Gardens photograph series I did in April. Those are so going up in my office tomorrow, as well as some vintage advertisements that haven’t found space on my bedroom walls yet.

The best part is, the office is two blocks north of the White House. That’s some prime real estate, that is.

You know what’s even better? I only have to commute to DC about twice a week – Tuesdays and Wednesdays – and I don’t have to be in the office until 11am. I traveled by metro today but that took *ages*. It took me two hours to get there, and it’s just so unpredictable. I was a little late today because they had some kind of switch problem and I had to sit in the tunnel right before Farragut West for about fifteen minutes. I’m going to try driving all the way in tomorrow and see how that goes. I’m really not that nervous about driving into DC, I’ve done it a lot.

So, as you might have guessed, Ms Sams really liked the proposal I pitched today at the meeting. We’re going to get to work on it immediately. She’s going to help me come up with a budget, I get to research a bunch of information about foster care online communities and such, and we’re going to collaborate on finding funding. It’s going to be fantastic. We’re aiming to have the whole, complete proposal for funding and such finished by the end of January. I can’t wait, this is going to be so fantastic. I *knew* she’d love it, she’s such a nice woman.

She also gave me a few other assignments which I’ve already pretty much taken care of in the last hour, even with the shopping I just did. At least, I’ve done as much as I can from here. I need to get in contact with the ABC affiliate to coordinate a meeting; I’m hoping Translating Drew can help arrange that. I also need to do that aforementioned research, which I started last night actually, but I can’t do that right this minute because I promised my sister-in-law Jen that I’d help her set up for an activity she’s planning – she needs to borrow some of my photography and painting for some kind of art show she’s putting on for her church congregation.

I’m so excited. I’ve been preparing for this moment for four years, working my butt off on the Daily Prophet, leading it all on my own. I’m so glad to finally be in a position where I can have help. This site’s going to kick serious butt, and it’s going to be such the brainchild of a lot of people with a whole lot of talent. I can’t wait. 🙂

I bought myself a congratulations present today. I went to the bookstore to buy some books that the CEO suggested I read, and I made the mistake of walking through the art section on my way to the cash register. I should never be allowed into a book store unaccompanied. I saw it as I rushed by and had to have it – “Art of Imagination” – all about pulp art from 1900 and onward. It’s hilarious! Pulp art has always been one of my favorite art forms and I was so disappointed when one of my favorite online pulp artchives went offline. But now I have a whole history of it. Only problem is, the book is seriously huge and heavy, I’m not sure where to put it. Hey, maybe in my office! Tee hee. I think this is the biggest art book I’ve ever gotten, although I’m not sure it’s the heaviest. That “Earth From the Air” book I got for the BBC Newsround Award, that thing’s freakin’ heavy. Either way, I’m in love with it and can’t wait to start scanning my little heart away.

And now I need to head out the door to help Jen. More later, once I’ve finished my assignments for the day, and after I’ve had a chance to stop by Sweetwater for a celebratory root beer! Huzzah! 🙂
