As you probably know, my lovely friend Jimi bought me a PS3 for Christmas, cause hey, he’s nice like that. He was also nice enough to get me a copy of Little Big Planet as well. After playing it almost non-stop since Christmas, I’ve almost beaten the game. And while once you’ve beaten it, there’s still a whole lot to do, I’m still feeling the urge to look for another game to keep myself entertained.
The only other games I have are Civilization Revolution and Ferrari Challenge. I love Civ, but I’ve played that a LOT. My parents bought me Ferrari Challenge for Christmas, along with a steering wheel, but unfortunately the steering wheel broke. The game is kinda tough to play without one, but I just can’t afford an $80 steering wheel right now, and that’s the next option up from the $40 one I got for Christmas that didn’t work.
So that’s my gaming situation right now. Are there any video game geeks out there who would be willing to lend me a hand? I need some advice about which games might be good. Here are my criteria:
1 – Nothing too violent, gory, or creepy. Just not my style. I need happy things!
2 – Nothing too terribly stressful, cause it’s just not healthy for me right now.
3 – That said, I do want the game to be challenging, so that I feel like I have to work at it to eventually get good at it. I loved that about Little Big Planet, that it took me a while to really master it, so that when I did, it felt like I had accomplished something. Now that I’m only two levels away from acing every single one of the story levels, I really feel like I’ve made progress and really achieved some measure of success. So if I could replicate that in another game that isn’t violent, isn’t gory, and not terribly stressful, that would be wonderful. 🙂
4 – I like games with a story to them, but that’s not absolutely necessary. I really loved playing Final Fantasy back in the day, so action/adventure/rpg type stuff is fun, so long as it’s not over the top violent or whatever. Oh, and so long as it’s not horribly obnoxious like Myst (hehe, I just don’t have the mental capacity for that right now!)
5 – I also really like games with a sense of humor, that’s always fun. 🙂 Basically I don’t want anything that’s too terribly serious, unless you know of like a totally freaking awesome game that meets all the other criteria but is serious, then that’s fine.
6 – Umm… try to avoid the typical way over the top cliche scantily-clad-big-busted-chick-type games. Those just tick me off. 🙂
I think that’s everything. If I can think of anything else I’ll add it to the list. If you have any recommendations, I would greatly, greatly, greatly appreciate it!! Oh, also, has anyone played the new Street Fighter game yet? Is that fun? What about Folklore? I’ve heard Oblivion is fun too, but I’m kind of worried about the Mature rating. Any thoughts on that? What about a game like Uncharted? (I don’t know much about that, but I’ve seen stuff in Home about it…) Tomb Raider: Underworld? Since all I usually ever see are the four walls of my bedroom, I want to get out, I want some adventure, but I don’t know what to go for…
To all you lovely geeks out there, thanks in advance for letting me pick your brain. 🙂 Happy gaming!
– Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction – It’s a classic platformer, and yes there are guns, but it’s fun, funny, smart and silly. The boys and I love it.
– Wipeout HD: From the Playstation Store. It reminds me of the old F-Zero on SNES. It’s a great racer that starts out really easy but ramps up to pretty darned hard. No need for a steering wheel
– Flow: No challenge, really, it’s just mesmerizingly gorgeous. Also in the Playstation Store
Unfortunately, the PS3 isn’t really strong when it comes to platformers – it’s all about military style FPS, driving and God of War-type stuff. But, it’s getting better, especially w/ the success of LBP.
Also, before you buy anything, look for it on eBay. I’ve got 3 games on their way here (Madden 09, NBA Live 08 and Warhawks) for the price of one new game.
Lego games. Period. “Batman” is the best, though “Star Wars” disputably ties it.
“Sonic Unleashed” looks like fun. I’m a huge Sonic fan, though, so I may be biased.
If you like racing (and I know you do), you could get a “Need for Speed” game. You might want to hold out for “Gran Turismo 5,” though, because it has a feature where you can build and race your own Ferraris.
I recommend Little Big Plannet or the Katamary series, I don’t know if the last one can be played in the new PS3, I hope they can because they are very good. Also the Lego series (star wars, Indiana Jones and Batman) are very good.
Cheers
